Athavan joined the Arrington Watkins team in 2002 as a masters graduate specializing in energy efficiency from ASU. He has served as project coordinator and construction administrator on several courts projects and most recently the 4000 prison bed expansion project for Arizona Department of Corrections. His education and passion is in the field of sustainable design and construction. He is LEED accredited and is involved in the feasibility analysis and proposals of various projects for LEED certification. He is an AEE certified Energy Auditor and has conducted audits to identify energy conservation measures on fire stations for the City of Phoenix. He was involved with the Del E Webb school of construction as an industry expert in LEED and sustainability. He served on the board of directors for the Arizona chapter of the USGBC from 2006-2009
